A Tory is a member or supporter of the British Conservative Party. Note the capital T — it is the name of a political group, so it is written like a name.
Strictly, the party's official name is the Conservative Party, and "Tory" is the old nickname that stuck. British newspapers use it constantly, mostly because it is short and fits in a headline: "Tory MP resigns", "Tory leadership race". It is a completely normal word in British political talk, and Conservatives use it about themselves without embarrassment.
But the feeling is not perfectly neutral. In the mouth of an opponent, "Tory" can be said with real dislike — "typical Tory policy" is not a compliment. Roughly: "Conservative" is the formal, polite word; "Tory" is the everyday word, and depending on who is speaking it can be , plain, or an insult. Younger British speakers on the political left often use it as a straightforward term of abuse.
It works as a noun ("she's a Tory") and as an adjective before another noun ("the Tory government", "Tory voters"). The plural is Tories — the y becomes ies.
This is a British word. In Canada, Conservatives are also sometimes called Tories. In the United States it is not used for modern at all; there, historically, a Tory meant an American who stayed loyal to the British king during the American Revolution — so the word survives in American English mainly as a history word meaning "traitor to the American side".
組成From Irish tóraí, "a pursuer", from tóir, "pursuit". It first meant an Irish bandit or outlaw who robbed travellers on the roads — the earliest record in English is from 1646. It was thrown at one political side as an insult in the 1600s, and, as often happens, the insulted group eventually adopted the name themselves.
