To tippex something is to paint white correction fluid over a mistake on paper so it disappears and you can write again on top. It is the verb made from the brand name , and it is used in British and Irish English the way people say 'to hoover' the floor or 'to google' a name — the brand became the ordinary word for the action. You will see it written several ways because it is a brand caught halfway to being a normal verb: tippex, , . As a verb, the lower-case form without the is the most usual, and it takes normal endings: tippexed, tippexing. It is often followed by 'out' or 'over': 'I tippexed out the wrong number', 'she tippexed over the whole line'. Two notes on feeling. First, this is informal and spoken. In careful or formal writing you would say 'correct', 'cover with correction fluid', or simply 'cross out'. Second, it is British and Irish, not American — an American would say 'white it out' or 'use Wite-Out'. There is also a small extra use, half-joking, where people say a fact or a person was tippexed out of a document or a photo, meaning erased on purpose so no trace shows. That use borrows the picture of the white paint hiding what was underneath.
