1. 1

Tinted means something clear has a little colour added to it, so it is still see-through but not perfectly clear. We say it most often about glass: tinted car windows, tinted sunglasses, the tinted glass in an office building. The colour is usually light — grey, brown, green, blue — and the point is often practical: to cut the sun, to stop heat, or to stop people seeing in.

Tinted means指的是 something clear has a little colour added to it原本透明的東西加了一點點顏色 so所以 it is still see-through but not perfectly clear還是看得穿,但不再完全清澈。 We我們 say it most often about glass最常拿它來說玻璃 tinted car windows, tinted sunglasses, the tinted glass in an office buildingtinted車窗、tinted太陽眼鏡、辦公大樓裡的tinted玻璃。 The colour顏色 is usually light通常很淡 grey, brown, green, blue灰色、棕色、綠色、藍色 and而 the point is often practical用意通常很實際 to cut the sun, to stop heat, or to stop people seeing in擋太陽、隔熱,或是不讓人看進來。

Notice the 'a little' part. If glass is painted white so you cannot see through it at all, that is not tinted; that is or opaque. Tinted keeps the seeing-through and only changes the colour of the light.

Notice要注意 the 'a little' part「一點點」這個部分。 If glass is painted white so you cannot see through it at all如果玻璃被漆成白色,完全看不穿 that is not tinted那就不是tinted that is frosted or opaque那叫做frosted(霧面)或opaque(不透明)。 Tinted Tinted keeps the seeing-through保留了「看得穿」 and only changes the colour of the light只改變了光線的顏色。

The word also works outside glass. Hair can be tinted, which means a soft colour was added, not a full dye job — a will often use tinted to mean gentler than 'dyed'. A face cream can be tinted (tinted moisturiser is a common product), meaning it carries a light colour.

The word這個字 also works outside glass也用在玻璃以外的東西上。 Hair頭髮 can be tinted可以是tinted which means a soft colour was added意思是加了一點柔和的顏色 not a full dye job不是整個染過 a hairdresser will often use tinted to mean gentler than 'dyed'美髮師常用tinted來表示比「dyed(染色)」更溫和。 A face cream面霜 can be tinted也可以是tinted (tinted moisturiser is a common product)(tinted moisturiser是很常見的產品) meaning it carries a light colour意思是它帶著淡淡的顏色。

And writers use it for light too: 'the sky was tinted pink'.

And writers use it for light too作家也會拿它來寫光線 'the sky was tinted pink'「the sky was tinted pink(天空被染上一抹粉紅)」。

There is one more use worth knowing, because it is not about colour at all. If you say someone's view of the past is tinted, or '', you mean their feelings have coloured what they see — they remember it prettier than it was. 'He looks at his school days through glasses.' That phrase is very common in British English.

There is one more use worth knowing還有一個值得知道的用法 because it is not about colour at all因為它跟顏色完全無關。 If you say someone's view of the past is tinted, or 'rose-tinted'如果你說某人對過去的看法是tinted,或是「rose-tinted」 you mean意思是 their feelings have coloured what they see他們的感情替他們看到的東西上了色 they remember it prettier than it was他們記得的比實際上更美好。 'He looks at his school days through rose-tinted glasses.'「他透過玫瑰色的濾鏡看待自己的學生時代。」 That phrase這個說法 is very common in British English在英式英文裡非常常見。

, tinted is nearly always used before a noun (tinted windows) or after 'be' (the windows are tinted). It comes from the verb 'tint', but the verb is much rarer than this -ed form; most people meet the word as tinted first and may never use 'to tint' at all.

Grammatically從文法上來說 tinted is nearly always used before a noun (tinted windows)幾乎都用在名詞前面(tinted windows) or或是 after 'be' (the windows are tinted)放在「be」後面(the windows are tinted)。 It它 comes from the verb 'tint'來自動詞「tint」 but但 the verb is much rarer than this -ed form這個動詞比-ed這個形式罕見得多 most people meet the word as tinted first大部分人是先認識tinted這個字 and may never use 'to tint' at all可能一輩子都不會用到「to tint」這個動詞。
