1. 1

A time-saver is a thing, a way of doing something, or sometimes a person, that lets you finish a job in less time than it would normally take. It is a noun, and it is almost always countable: a real time-saver, a great time-saver, one of the biggest time-savers in the kitchen. You use it about the thing itself, not about the saving: the rice is a time-saver; the rice saves time.

A time-saverTime-saver is a thing, a way of doing something, or sometimes a person指的是一樣東西、一種做事的方法,有時候也可以是一個人 that lets you finish a job in less time than it would normally take能讓你比平常花更少時間完成一件事。 It它 is a noun是個名詞 and而且 it is almost always countable幾乎都是可數的 a real time-saver, a great time-saver, one of the biggest time-savers in the kitchena real time-saver、a great time-saver、廚房裡最省時的東西之一。 You你 use it about the thing itself是用它來指那個東西本身 not about the saving不是指「省時間」這個動作 the rice cooker is a time-saver電子鍋是time-saver the rice cooker saves time電子鍋(這個動作)省下了時間。

Notice that it is usually praise. When someone calls something a time-saver, they are recommending it — 'The new form is a real time-saver' means 'use it, it's better'. It is a very common word in advertising, in office talk, and in cooking.

Notice that it is usually praise要注意的是,它通常是一種稱讚。 When someone calls something a time-saver當有人說某樣東西是time-saver they are recommending it他們是在推薦它 'The new form is a real time-saver'「這個新表格真的很time-saver」 means意思是 'use it, it's better'「用這個,它比較好」。 It它 is a very common word in advertising, in office talk, and in cooking在廣告、辦公室談話和烹飪裡都非常常見。

Big things get called time-savers (a machine, a computer system) but so do very small tricks (cutting the vegetables the night before).

Big things大的東西 get called time-savers (a machine, a computer system)會被叫做time-saver(一台機器、一套電腦系統) but但 so do very small tricks (cutting the vegetables the night before)很小的小技巧也會(前一晚先把菜切好)。

Two more things worth knowing, though. First, the spelling wanders: you will see time-, time and timesaver, and all three are accepted; the is the safest for a student.

Two more things worth knowing, though不過還有兩件值得知道的事。 First第一 the spelling wanders拼法會變 you will see time-saver, time saver and timesaver你會看到time-saver、time saver和timesaver and all three are accepted三種都可以接受 the hyphen is the safest for a student對學生來說,用連字號的那種最保險。

Second, people often say it about something that only feels faster. If your friend says the app is a huge time-saver, that is their opinion, not a measured fact — so a sentence like 'It's supposed to be a time-saver' carries a small doubt with it.

Second第二 people often say it about something that only feels faster大家常常是在說某樣東西「感覺起來比較快」的時候才這樣講。 If your friend says the app is a huge time-saver如果你朋友說這個app是個很大的time-saver that is their opinion那是他的個人意見 not a measured fact不是量測出來的事實 so所以 a sentence like 'It's supposed to be a time-saver'像「It's supposed to be a time-saver」這樣的句子 carries a small doubt with it其實帶著一點點懷疑。

組成time + saver. 'Saver' is 'save' + '-er', 'the thing that saves'. So: the thing that saves you time. English builds a lot of nouns this way — X-saver, X-holder, X-opener.
