You have small flat plastic discs called winks, and a bigger disc called a squidger; you press the edge of a small one with the big one so it flips up into the air, and you try to land it in a cup in the middle of the table. The word looks plural but names one game, so it takes a singular verb: "Tiddlywinks is easy to learn." One disc is a wink; there is no such thing as "a tiddlywink game" spelled without the -s in normal use. The game is British, Victorian, and now mostly a thing remember — which is why the word is most often used today as a joke about something trivial: if a person says "this isn't tiddlywinks", they mean the situation is serious, so stop treating it lightly. meet the word far more often in that sense than as an actual game to play.

組成From tiddlywink + -s. Tiddlywink is possibly tiddly (informal for little, tiny) + wink (a quick blink of the eye) — a fitting name for a small disc that jumps in a flash. A British bank clerk, Joseph Assheton Fincher, patented the game in 1889 and registered the name that year; the spelling tiddlywinks became standard from about 1894.
