A small empty square on a form or a screen that you put a mark in to choose something — on a paper survey, in an app's settings, next to 'I agree to the terms'. This is the British spelling and it may also appear as two words, 'tick box'; Americans say 'checkbox' for the same square, and 'checkbox' has become the usual word in software everywhere, so you will meet it far more often in computing. British English also uses 'tickbox' before a noun to criticise work done only for show: a 'tickbox exercise' is something an organisation does just so it can say it was done, with no real care behind it — training nobody learns from, a consultation nobody reads.
