Tegucigalpa is the capital city of Honduras, a country in Central America — the narrow part of the Americas between Mexico and South America. It sits inland, up in the mountains, in a valley about a kilometre above the sea, which is why it is cooler than you would expect for somewhere that close to the equator. In English you say it roughly te-goo-see-GAL-pa, with the strong beat on GAL. It is long and unfamiliar enough that English speakers often slow down and say it carefully; nobody will think less of you for asking how it is said. Locals frequently shorten it to Tegus, the way people say 'Frisco' or 'Philly'. As a word, it behaves like any city name: no 'the', a capital T, and it takes 'in' for the place ('in Tegucigalpa') and 'to' for going there. Because it is a capital, English also uses it the way we use 'Washington' or 'Beijing' — to mean the government. 'Tegucigalpa has denied the claim' means the Honduran government has. The city itself is old, built up in the 1500s around silver mining in the hills, and it is officially joined with a neighbouring town, Comayagüela, into one capital district. Most students will meet the word in a news report, a geography lesson, or a quiz question, rather than in conversation.
