His idea was that the many Native American nations should stop making separate deals for their separate lands and act as one people, because land belonged to all of them together and no single group could sell it. Working with his Tenskwatawa, a religious teacher known as 'the Prophet', he travelled enormous distances to build that alliance. It broke apart after US forces attacked the brothers' settlement at in 1811 while Tecumseh was away, and he was killed fighting alongside the British in the War of 1812.
