Taxation is the whole system by which a government collects money from people and businesses to pay for public things like roads, schools, and hospitals. While 'tax' usually talks about one specific charge or amount of money, 'taxation' is the bigger picture - the rules, the policy, the whole practice of taxing, like when people debate 'fair taxation' or a country's 'taxation system.'
