Two later things後來有兩件事shaped how the city looks now形塑了這座城市現在的樣貌。A huge earthquake in 1966一場1966年的大地震flattened much of it把大半個城市夷為平地,and it was rebuilt in the Soviet period後來在蘇聯時期重建,so所以a visitor sees wide straight streets, big square buildings, and a famously beautiful underground railway訪客會看到寬闊筆直的街道、方正的大樓,還有一個以美著稱的地下鐵,next to old mosques and markets that survived旁邊還留著倖存下來的老清真寺和市場。

The name這個名字is used the way any capital's name is用法跟任何首都的名字一樣:for the city itself可以指這座城市本身,and sometimes as a short way of saying that country's government有時也是那個國家政府的簡稱——'Tashkent has agreed to the deal.'「塔什干已經同意這項協議。」In English在英文裡it is pronounced with the stress on the second part重音放在第二個音節,tash-KENT唸作tash-KENT。
