The Taoiseach is the prime minister of the Republic of Ireland — the head of the government there. Ireland kept the Irish-language title instead of translating it, so even English-language news says 'the Taoiseach' rather than 'the Irish prime minister', much the same way English says 'the Chancellor' for Germany.
