Tampa is a city on the west coast of Florida, in the United States, sitting on a big bay that opens into the Gulf. It is a working port — ships come in and out — and at the same time a place people go for the warm weather, the beaches nearby, and the theme parks. So it has two faces: cranes and cargo on one side, holiday hotels on the other.
The wider area is often called Tampa Bay, which is confusing, because Tampa Bay is the name of the water and also of the whole region around it (Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater). When you see "Tampa Bay" in sports news, it means a team from that region, not from the water.
As a proper name it always takes a capital T, and no the — you say "in Tampa", never "in the Tampa". If your students meet it, it will usually be in weather news (hurricanes come this way), sports, or travel talk.
組成The origin is not settled. It most likely comes from a word in the language of the Calusa, one of the peoples living in Florida before the Spanish arrived, but what it meant is no longer certain.
