An occasion where a great deal of talking goes on — a long conversation, a meeting, a conference full of speeches and discussion. The word carries a tone, and the tone is usually dry or mocking: calling a government meeting a talkfest suggests hours of words and nothing decided at the end. It is especially common in Australian and New Zealand newspapers, where politicians attack each other's summits as talkfests. But it also has a friendly use, for two old friends who sit up until three in the morning catching up — "we had a proper talkfest". Which meaning you get depends completely on the situation. It is informal, and you would not put it in a serious report unless you meant to criticise.
