組成From Classical Persian تاجیک (tājīk), which in Central Asia meant roughly 'someone who is not a Turk' — that is, the Persian-speaking neighbours. Further back it goes through Middle Persian to an Arabic clan name, Tayy. You may hear that Tajik comes from a Persian word for 'crown' (tāj). It is a lovely story and people repeat it, but it is not true.
