A superhighway is a very wide road built for fast driving over long distances, with several lanes in each direction and no traffic lights. It is an American word, and even in America it now sounds a little grand or old-fashioned; the everyday words are 'freeway', 'expressway', or 'interstate'. In Britain the same kind of road is a 'motorway', and in Taiwan we call it 高速公路. So this is a word you are more likely to read — especially in older writing, or writing that wants a big, sweeping tone — than to hear from a driver giving you directions. There is one use that keeps it alive: 'the information superhighway', a 1990s name for the internet. That phrase was everywhere for a few years and now sounds distinctly dated, so if you meet it in a text, it is a clue about when the text was written, and it may well be used with a smile.
組成super- + highway. Super- from Latin super, 'above, beyond', here meaning 'on a bigger scale than the ordinary'. Highway is old English roadbuilding vocabulary — 'high' in the sense of a main or important road, plus 'way'.
