1. 1

Small odds and ends, all put together under one name because listing each one would be a waste of time. You meet it mostly in two places. On a bill, a receipt, or a company's accounts, "sundries" is the last line — the small costs nobody bothered to name: tape, batteries, a taxi, some stamps. In a shop, "sundries" can mean the small useful goods that do not fit the main category, like the little bits sold beside the medicine in a pharmacy. It is always plural — you never say "a sundry" as a noun. It feels formal and slightly old, more like paperwork than conversation; a friend telling you about their shopping would say "and some other bits and pieces". There is also an adjective, sundry, meaning "various", but it now survives mainly in the fixed phrase "all and sundry", meaning everybody, often with a hint that too many people were involved.
