Sugared means having had sugar added, or covered in sugar. You meet it mostly on food: sugared almonds, sugared , sugared strawberries. It is the past form of the verb 'to sugar', which means to put sugar on or in something — but honestly, the verb is rare in modern speech. People say 'I put sugar in my tea', not 'I sugared my tea'. It is the adjective form that stays alive, and it lives mainly on menus, packets and recipes. There is a second, figurative use worth knowing. 'Sugared' can describe words that have been made falsely sweet — 'sugared praise', 'a sugared version of the truth'. It suggests something unpleasant hidden under sweetness, so it is not a compliment. This is the same idea as the common phrase 'to sugar the pill' (British) or 'sugar-coat' (American): making bad news easier to swallow. 'Sugar-coated' is much more common than 'sugared' for this, and if you learn only one, learn that one. One odd extra: in North America, '' can mean collecting maple sap, so ' off' is boiling it into maple syrup. That is regional and seasonal, and you may never need it.
