- 1
A subunit is a smaller unit that is part of a bigger unit. You can find subunits inside a company (a small team inside a department), inside a machine (a small part inside a bigger part), or inside science (a protein is often made of several subunits). It's a plain, technical-sounding word — people use it in business, biology, and engineering more than in everyday chat.
