A striptease is a performance — usually on a stage, in a bar or club — where a person slowly takes off their clothes in front of an audience, doing it in a way that is meant to be sexually exciting. The important part is the word tease: the point is not simply to be naked, it is the slowness, the music, the pretending-to-almost-stop. A person who does this for a living is a stripper, and the place is a strip club. The word can be a noun for one performance ("she did a striptease") or for the whole kind of entertainment ("the history of striptease"). People also use it jokingly, for anything undressed slowly or revealed bit by bit — a friend peeling off three coats in a warm room, or a company that shows one small piece of news each week before a big announcement. Though actually, the word now sounds a little old-fashioned to younger speakers; it belongs to an older world of nightclubs and feather fans. Modern speakers more often just say stripping, or the newer word burlesque for the artistic, retro kind. It is not a rude word, but it is an adult topic, so it is not something you would say in a work meeting or to a stranger.
