When workers stop working to force their boss to give them better pay or conditions, that is a strike. A strikebreaker is someone who works anyway — either one of the workers who refuses to join, or an outsider brought in to do the striking workers' jobs so the company keeps running. The word is not neutral. It is what the strikers call that person, and it means 'you are helping the boss beat us'. To the company, the same person is just 'a replacement worker' or 'temporary staff'. So which word someone chooses tells you which side they are on. The stronger, uglier word for the same person is 'scab' — that one is a real insult and you would only hear it shouted, or read it on a picket sign. You meet this word most in history (the big American and British strikes of the 1800s and 1900s, when companies hired armed men as strikebreakers) and in labour news. It is countable: one strikebreaker, several strikebreakers.
