Something stretchy can be pulled longer or wider and then goes back to the shape it was. A rubber band is stretchy; so are leggings, socks, swimming costumes, and the waist of comfortable trousers. Chewing gum and melted cheese are called stretchy too, though they do not really spring back — with food the word just means 'you can pull it into long strings'. It is an everyday, friendly word. In a shop or an advertisement the technical word is 'elastic' or 'stretch' used as an adjective ('stretch jeans'), but ordinary people say stretchy. It is a small compliment when talking about clothes: stretchy means comfortable, easy to move in, forgiving if you eat too much. Forms: stretchier, stretchiest.
