Strenuous describes an activity that needs a lot of physical or mental effort and energy - it makes you tired. Running up a mountain is strenuous exercise; a strenuous week at work is one full of hard, effort. Doctors often use it too, like telling a patient to 'avoid strenuous activity' while recovering.
