The result sounds half like a real long Latin word and half like a child inventing one, and that mismatch is the point: it is a warm, homely word for a homely virtue, praising ordinary effort in ordinary language rather than in fancy language. It is American, informal, and now rather old-fashioned — you meet it in older writing, in sports talk, and in the kind of speech that praises hard work.
