組成stereotype + -ical. The stereotype half is a printing word: Greek stereos 'solid' + typos 'a stamped mark', meaning the solid metal plate a printer used to strike out identical copies of a page. The -ical ending is the ordinary English way of turning a noun into an adjective (history → historical, magic → magical); it arrived through Latin and French as -ic plus -al, and English fused the two. So: 'of the kind that comes off the same plate every time'.
