A horse — but never an ordinary one, and never in ordinary speech. A steed is a fine, strong, fast horse, the kind a knight rides into battle or a hero rides across a kingdom. The word belongs to old stories: legends, fantasy novels, poems, films with castles in them. If you said it about a real horse in a real field today, it would sound strange, like calling your dinner a feast. That is exactly why living speakers still use it — as a joke. People call their bicycle, , scooter or even their old car their trusty steed, and the humour comes from the gap between the grand word and the everyday thing. Both uses are alive: the serious one inside stories, the playful one outside them. There is no everyday middle use. It has been in English for over a thousand years, and it has always meant a horse of some standing.
組成Not a word you can split. It comes down to us from Old English stēda, meaning a stallion or a horse kept for breeding — a valuable animal, not a working farm horse. That sense of 'a horse worth something' has stayed with the word ever since, which is why it still sounds grand.
