The light that comes down from the stars at night. It is an uncountable noun, so you say starlight, not a starlight or starlights. The amount is tiny — starlight is what is left when there is no moon and no lamps, just enough to see shapes by — so the word often carries a feeling of faint, soft, silvery light rather than brightness. It is used plainly (we read the map by starlight) and also very often in songs, poems and names of hotels, cafés and songs, where it stands for something romantic and peaceful. It can sit in front of another noun too: a starlight walk, the Starlight Express.
