Why have special words at all? Because 'right' depends on which way the person talking happens to be facing. If a sailor shouts 'go right' and you are looking back at them, you turn the wrong way. Starboard never changes: it is fixed to the vessel, not to a body. That is why ships, planes, and navies keep the words even though they sound old-fashioned.
Why have special words at all為什麼需要特別的詞呢? Because是因為 'right''right'(右邊) depends on which way the person talking happens to be facing取決於說話的人當時面向哪裡 If a sailor shouts 'go right'如果水手喊「go right(向右)」 and而 you are looking back at them你正好面對他, you turn the wrong way你就會轉錯方向 Starboard但starboard never changes永遠不會改變: it is fixed to the vessel它是固定在船上的, not to a body不是固定在人身上的 That is why這就是為什麼 ships, planes, and navies船艦、飛機和海軍 keep the words還是保留這些詞 even though they sound old-fashioned儘管聽起來有點老派
It works as a noun ('a light on the starboard'), and it sits in front of other nouns ('the starboard engine', 'the starboard side'). You also hear it in directions like 'hard to starboard', meaning turn sharply that way.
It works as a noun它可以當名詞用 ('a light on the starboard')(例如'a light on the starboard'「右舷的燈」), and而且 it sits in front of other nouns也可以放在其他名詞前面 ('the starboard engine', 'the starboard side')(例如'the starboard engine'「右舷引擎」、'the starboard side'「右舷這一側」) You also hear it你也會聽到它 in directions like 'hard to starboard'用在指令裡,比如'hard to starboard'(用力轉向右舷), meaning turn sharply that way意思是朝那個方向猛轉
At night, ships carry a green light on the starboard side and a red one on the port side, so another ship can tell which way you are heading in the dark.
At night晚上, ships船隻 carry a green light on the starboard side右舷會掛綠燈 and而 a red one on the port side左舷掛紅燈, so這樣 another ship另一艘船 can tell which way you are heading in the dark就能在黑暗中判斷你朝哪個方向前進
On land it is only a joke, or sailing-club talk. Nobody asks you to pass the salt on their starboard side unless they are being funny.
On land在陸地上 it is only a joke它只是個玩笑話, or sailing-club talk或是帆船俱樂部裡的行話 Nobody asks you不會有人要你 to pass the salt on their starboard side把鹽遞到他們的右舷側 unless they are being funny除非他們是在講笑話
組成steer + board. 'Board' here is an old word for the side of a ship. Long before the modern rudder, ships were steered with a big oar hung over one side, and because most people are right-handed, it was hung on the right — the steer-side, stēorbord in Old English. Since that oar stuck out on the right, the ship had to pull up to the dock on its left side instead, and that left side became the port side, the one facing the harbour.

A list that shows messages starred in a community space.

- TFHRC#1 indicates a backquote in a chat message using fixed-width formatting, which is (correctly) output literally. FHRC#2 shows that the same backquote is misinterpreted by the sidebar starboard as a formatting character, wrecking the intended look and feel even more.

A system that enables such a list.
- In case you don't know what a starboard is, it's basically a system used on Discord that whenever you react with a star emoji, the message is showcased inside of a #starboard channel.
