A grown male horse that has not been — one that can father foals. That last part is the whole point of the word. A male horse that has been is a , and most riding horses are , so 'stallion' is not simply the word for 'boy horse'. It is the word for one kept whole, usually for breeding, and often a valuable animal in a stud farm's records.
Stallions have a reputation for being strong, spirited and hard to handle, and English leans on that. Call a man a stallion and you mean he is physically impressive and sexually attractive or active. It is informal, a bit crude, and usually said as a compliment or as a joke between friends — but it is about sex, so it is not something to say at work or to a stranger. Advertising and romance novels use it freely.
組成From Middle English stalion, taken from Old French estalon, and that came from a Germanic word connected to 'stall' — the stable where a horse is kept. The idea behind the name is a horse kept in a stall for breeding, rather than one taken out to work. The Old English word for this animal, hengest, was pushed out by the French one.
