To squabble is to argue noisily about something small — whose turn it is, who took the last , who sat where. The word carries a judgement inside it: whoever uses it thinks the argument is not worth having. So it is a word you use about other people more than about yourself. Children squabble; brothers and sisters squabble; and reporters love it for politicians, because calling it squabbling makes them sound petty. It is also a noun: "they had a squabble over the TV remote". It is light and informal — a squabble is loud but shallow, nobody is really hurt, and it blows over in ten minutes. Compare argue (neutral, could be serious), quarrel (more serious, and older-sounding), and fight (which can mean hands, not just words). Squabble is the smallest of these. You squabble over or about something, and with someone.
組成Probably a northern-European word copying the sound of noisy chatter — related to old Swedish and Norwegian words for prattling and scolding. Scholars mark it "probably", so it is not certain.
