Sprog is British slang for a child or a baby, used jokingly and . It sounds cheerful and slightly rough — the kind of word a dad uses about his own kids down the pub: 'I've got to get back, the sprogs are waiting.' Because it is joking, it works when you are talking about your own children or a friend's, but it would be rude to say to a stranger about their baby, and you would never use it in writing that needs to sound serious. 'To have a sprog' or 'to drop a sprog' is a way to say to have a baby. It is very British — Australians use it too — and Americans will often not know it at all. It began as forces slang in the 1940s, where it also meant a new, recruit, and older military people may still use it that way.
(英式俚語,帶玩笑親暱意味)小孩、小鬼、小娃兒;語感像半開玩笑地說「我家那幾隻」
組成1940s British service slang. Where it came from is not certain — one suggestion is an old word sprag meaning 'a lively young man', but nobody is sure, so treat the origin as an open question.
