Describes a thing with a spring built inside it, so that one part is always being pushed against another — and so that when you move that part, it jumps back by itself as soon as you let go. Think of a pen with a button on top, a , a clothes , the lid of a bin that shuts on its own, the seats in a cinema that fold up when you stand. All of those are spring-loaded. The important part of the meaning is not just "contains a spring" but "the spring is pushing all the time, and the thing returns or snaps back on its own". That is why the word turns up in instructions, product descriptions and repair guides: it tells you the part will move by itself, so be careful. It is a technical, practical word rather than a literary one, and it always goes in front of the noun (a spring-loaded catch, a spring-loaded hinge). People also use it about a person or situation ready to react instantly — "she was spring-loaded, ready to argue" — but that is a stretch of the word, not its normal job.
