Spot-on means exactly right — not roughly right, but right on the mark. You say it about an answer, a guess, an , a description, a measurement: 'Your guess was spot-on.' It is British and Australian, informal, and it usually turns up as a warm little compliment, often on its own as a whole reply: someone explains something and you just say 'Spot-on.' Americans understand it but rarely say it; they would say 'exactly', 'nailed it', or 'right on the money'. Two things to notice about how it behaves. First, it does not usually go in front of a noun — you say 'her timing was spot-on', not 'a spot-on answer', though people do break that from time to time. Second, it resists more and most: something is spot-on or it is not, so 'more spot-on' sounds wrong. It also works as an adverb: 'He landed spot-on in the middle of the target.'
