Having the qualities of a spod — too studious, too absorbed in something narrow, and awkward with people because of it. Where spod names the person, spoddy describes them, or describes the things around them: a spoddy hobby, a spoddy pair of glasses, a spoddy conversation about train timetables. British slang, informal, and mildly insulting in the teasing way rather than the cruel way. Like spod, it now sounds dated; a young person in Taipei or London today would reach for nerdy. One useful thing about it: because it is an adjective, it attaches to things and not just people, so English speakers use it to mark a whole activity as unfashionably obsessive — 'that sounds a bit spoddy' — without accusing anyone directly.
