1. 1

Splashy describes something made big and bright so that everyone will notice it — a splashy advertising campaign, a splashy wedding, a splashy new restaurant, a splashy headline. The picture behind it is a big splash of water: sudden, loud, and impossible to ignore. The feeling of the word is not quite a compliment. It says ', expensive, made for attention', and it often hints that there is more show than substance underneath. Journalists like it, especially American ones, and it is informal — you would use it in conversation or in a magazine, not in a formal report. It also keeps a plain literal sense: a splashy , or splashy paint, is one that makes or shows splashes, and 'splashy' can describe a pattern of large irregular marks, as on a shirt. Forms: splashier, splashiest.

組成splash(水花、濺)+ -y(形容詞字尾,「有…性質的」)。-y 是英文最常見的形容詞字尾之一,從古英文 -iġ 一路傳下來,像 dirty、noisy、shiny 都是同一個。所以 splashy 就是「像濺起水花那樣的」——聲勢大、看得見。
