Spectral describes something that looks like a ghost — pale, strange, and not quite solid or real, the kind of light or shape that makes you feel a little afraid. It's a literary word; you'll meet it in ghost stories or poems more than in daily talk ("a spectral figure appeared at the end of the hallway"). There's also a technical, unrelated use in science, where "spectral" describes light broken into its colors — for example, "spectral analysis" in physics.
