Drunk. This is a light, old-fashioned, joking word for it — the kind of word you use when nobody is angry and nothing bad happened. If you say someone was sozzled at the party, you are smiling a little: they had too much wine, they got loud or silly, they had to be walked home. It does not sound like a serious problem the way 'an alcoholic' does, and it does not sound rough or rude either. It is soft and almost affectionate, so people often use it about themselves ('I was completely sozzled') or about a friend, but you would not use it about a stranger you disapprove of. It is British, and it feels older — you meet it in books, in comedy, in the speech of people over about fifty. Younger British speakers know it but say it for fun, a bit like putting on an old hat. Americans mostly recognise it without using it. It almost always comes after a linking verb — 'he was sozzled', 'she got sozzled' — and much less often before a noun. English has a very large family of these joking drunk-words (plastered, hammered, tipsy, merry), and sozzled sits at the gentle, comic end of it: sillier than tipsy, warmer than hammered.
