A very casual way of saying sorry, said "sozz". It belongs to British texting and online chat, mostly among younger people, and it is deliberately light. That lightness is the whole point: soz apologises for small things — being late to a message, forgetting a reply, eating the last biscuit. Using it for something that actually hurt someone would sound careless, even rude, because the word is doing the opposite of taking responsibility. It often carries a joking, not-really-sorry tone, especially with an emoji after it: "soz not soz". It lives in writing far more than in speech, though British teenagers do say it out loud. It also has a slight age marker on it — it was at its most fashionable around ten to fifteen years ago, so an adult using it now may sound as if they are trying to sound young, which can itself be the joke. Keep it out of anything you write to a teacher, a boss or a stranger.
