If a car is souped-up, someone has worked on the engine to make it faster and more powerful than it was when it left the factory. The word carries a picture with it: not a smooth expensive sports car, but an ordinary car that a person has modified themselves, often loudly and often more than the law would like. It is informal and slightly old-fashioned, with a friendly, tone. It has spread well beyond cars — people say a souped-up computer, a souped-up recipe, a souped-up version of a phone app — and there it just means a normal thing that has been given extra power or extra features. Note the form: 'souped-up' with the before a noun ('a souped-up motorbike'), and 'souped up' as two words after the verb ('he souped up his motorbike'). The origin is uncertain — it may come from 'soup' in the sense of a liquid poured into something, or it may be a form of 'supercharged'.
