A soundbar is a long, thin speaker box that you put under or in front of your television to make the sound better. Modern TVs are very flat, and there is simply no room inside them for a good speaker, so the sound comes out thin and voices can be hard to hear. A soundbar solves that: one bar, one cable, many small speakers inside it. It sits on the TV cabinet or hangs on the wall, and it often comes with a separate box for deep sound called a subwoofer. The word is everyday consumer English — shop language, review language, what you say to a friend. It is a countable noun. You will also see it written as two words, 'sound bar'; both are common and neither is wrong. People sometimes stretch the word to cover any long bar speaker, even one used with a computer.
