In American schools, a sophomore is a student in their second year - the second year of high school, or the second year of college/university. "Sophomore" is also used as an adjective for anything that is someone's second attempt, like a "sophomore album" (a band's second album) or a "sophomore slump" (doing worse the second time, after a strong start).
