Solicitation is the act of asking people for something, usually money, business, or support, often in a way that feels or unwanted — like a charity's phone calls asking for donations, or a stranger approaching people on the street. In law, it has two more serious senses: asking someone to commit a crime, or offering to pay someone for sex, which is illegal in many places.
