A snowman is a figure of a person that you build out of snow. The usual way is to roll snow along the ground until it makes a big ball, then put a smaller ball on top for the head — sometimes a middle ball too. Then you push things in for the face and body: stones or coal for eyes, a carrot for the nose, sticks for arms, an old hat and scarf on top. Children make them, and adults happily help. It is a winter game, not a serious sculpture, and part of the fun is that everyone's snowman looks a bit lopsided. You say *build* a snowman or *make* a snowman — not "draw" or "do". The word carries a gentle sadness too, because a snowman melts when the weather warms. Songs and picture books use that a lot. Note that the -man here does not mean the figure is male; a snow figure of anyone is still called a snowman in ordinary speech, though you will sometimes hear people say snow figure or snow person if they want to avoid that.
