A slob is a person who is lazy and messy: the room is a tip, the clothes are crumpled, and not much effort is getting made. It is informal and a little rude — you would not say it to your teacher's face, though friends sometimes use it as a joke ('I'm such a slob today'). There is also a verb, mostly in slob around or slob out: to spend time doing nothing useful, often on the sofa. The word comes from Irish slaba, used for mud and for a sloppy person. It looks close to , but that is a different word with a different history.
