When you slink, you go somewhere quietly and secretly — not like a ninja in a film, but like someone who does not want to be seen. The usual feeling is fear or shame: a child who broke a cup may slink out of the kitchen; a cat may slink under the sofa after a loud noise. You often hear slink away or slink off. The word is a little judgemental: it already says the person (or animal) has a reason to hide. People also stretch it. A model may slink down a runway, which is smooth and cat-like, not ashamed — though actually that use is about the body moving in a low, sliding way, not about guilt. The old past form is slunk (like sink → sunk); many people now say slinked, and you will meet both. There is a noun a slink for that kind of walk, but the verb is the one you will meet. Everyday and story language, not a formal report word.
組成From Old English slincan, “to creep; crawl”, from an old root about turning, winding, twisting. Dutch slinken is “to shrink”; German schleichen is “to slink”. English sleek sits on the same old line.
