The skyline is the shape you see where hills or buildings cut against the sky. When people say “the skyline” or “the New York skyline,” they mean that city’s famous edge of towers. A country skyline can be just ridges and trees. Photographers wait for because the outline shows up then. Though actually it is not the same as the horizon: the horizon is the far flat line where the earth seems to meet the sky; the skyline is the outline of what is standing there. Mostly a noun. There is a rare verb, to skyline, used in film and army talk for standing on a ridge so you show against the sky — almost always meet the noun.
