    To skydive is to jump from a plane, fall through the air for a while, and then open a parachute so you land safely. As a noun, a skydive is one jump like that. People do it as a sport, or once, for a thrill or for charity. You need lessons and a pack on your back; you do not step out of any plane you happen to be on. The word is simply sky + dive — a dive through the sky. Though actually the first part is not a swimmer's dive; you are falling, often belly-down, and 'dive' is more the feeling of dropping from very high up. A is the person; skydiving is the sport. Everyday but a bit in tone.
