Sky-blue is a bright, light blue — the colour people picture when they look up on a clear day and there are no clouds. You use it like any other colour word: a sky-blue shirt, sky-blue walls, sky-blue paint. You will also see it written as two words, sky blue; both are fine. The just glues the two ideas into one colour name. Though actually the real sky is not always this colour — dawn can be pink, and a rainy day is grey — so the word points to a kind of ideal, sunny blue, not every sky you will ever see. It is an ordinary, everyday word, not fancy and not technical. As a noun it can also mean the colour itself: she painted the door a lovely sky-blue.
