A skinflint is someone who hates spending money or giving it away. You use the word to show : you think they are mean, not merely careful. A careful person plans; a skinflint holds on even when sharing would be fair, or when the amount is tiny. The word is a bit old-fashioned and colourful — more a storybook or newspaper jab than a word young people use every day. It names a person, and it is , so it is closer to an insult than to a neutral money word.
