Ska is a kind of popular dance music that started in Jamaica in the late 1950s, before . It has a fast, steady beat, and the guitar often plays a short, sharp chop on the off-beat — that bright “” sound is a big part of how it feels. Horns (trumpet, , sax) are common. grew out of the same island scene but is usually slower and heavier; ska is the quicker, bouncier cousin. The style later travelled: Britain had a big ska revival in the late 1970s (often called two-tone), and many countries still have ska bands. People say the word as one syllable, like “skah,” not as three letters. It is everyday music talk, not a formal or academic word.
組成Nobody is sure where the name came from. It is probably the sound of that crisp guitar chop copied in a word. Other guesses are a shortening of “skavoovie,” a made-up word used by the musician Cluett Johnson, or of “speed polka.” Treat those as maybes.
