If something happens singularly, it happens in a way that is very noticeable or unusual. She was singularly calm means she was calm to a striking degree — more than you would expect. The “unusual” can be good or bad: singularly beautiful, but also singularly unlucky or singularly bad at cooking. It is a formal, slightly adverb; in easy talk people say really, unusually, or strangely instead. Though actually, it does not mean “one by one” (that is ), and in this use it is not the grammar word for “not plural,” even though those ideas sit in the same family.
